Why does Karana feel that it is important to get the white bass quickly? How does the narrators background affect her point of view concerning the fish?

The Aleut want and covet the white bass. Karana feels they are part of her culture and does not want them to have the bass. The white bass only mean money to the Aleuts: to Karana they mean more.
