The narrator goes to Dr. Bledsoe's office the first time to be questioned about why Mr. Norton was brought to Trueblood's area. Our narrator responds that he was simply following orders.

He returns to the office again the next morning to inform Dr. Bledsoe that he is leaving school for New York earlier than expected, and to pick up the reference letters Bledsoe promised to furnish him with (job references and contacts).
