What is the flow of the story like?
Did you mean in terms of the Film? In terms of the film it is called a bio-pic, This means it has actors depicting the life of Chris. Emile Hirsch plays Chris so the it really is both the actor and the director's (sean Penn) interpretation of events. THe events are true, more or less, to the book but it is still a movie with a script and storyline.
