Krakauer makes use of many writing strategies, most of which are used to create sympathy for Chris. People's perceptions of McCandless' actions were hugely negative. The majority of people saw Chris as spoiled, crazy, and suicidal. Krakauer uses factual evidence, backed by interviews of people who met Chris during his adventure. He also draws upon his own personal experiences and experiences of other individuals to paint us a picture..... to allow the reader to envision the intricate workings of the mind. In doing this, Krakauer appeals to our emotions in order to generate pathos.
