Chris holds his father's infidelity as a betrayal of his trust as much as his mother's. Chris widens his own domestic sorrows to society as a whole. It would seem Chris turns his back on a society that he feels is corrupt. Chris's lack of forgiveness and desire for altruistic perfection drives him to go looking for a utopia that does not exist.
