Krakauer, like Chris, is an adventurist. Unlike Chris, Krakauer is a skilled mountaineer and survivalist. While Krakauer admired Chris's spirit, he gives evidence that he felt Chris was misguided when it came to how he treated his family and Chris's romantic ideals about the wilderness. In the end, Chris believed that, in his way of thinking, that he can do anything as long as he truly had the determination to do it, and is willing to suffer while doing it was more important than anything else.
