Hilda was one of Minerva's classmates. She is a revolutionary activist. Hilda is described as course and outspoken, and her behavior, as well as her atheism, is responsible for her removal from the school. Over the course of the novel, we see Hilda influence Minerva, but never more so, that when Minerva assists is hiding from the authorities.
