Enrique Mirabal drinks too much and has affairs with women. He has children with Carmen, a woman on the Mirabal family property. Trujillo is a womanizing despot. The sisters are so exposed to harsh patriarchal misogyny that they attempt to pick husbands that are not like that and share their ideals both politically and morally.
