In Cold Blood

Contrast Bonnie Clutter to Nancy Clutter. Why do you think the mother and daughter are so different?

Bonnie falls apart after having her children. She is depressed and forlorn.... especially because she sees herself as a failure as mother and wife. Possibly, her life would have been different had she finished her nursing training and worked outside of the home, in addition, to becoming a wife and mother. None-the-less, what we do know is that she isolated herself from both friends and family, leaving her husband and daughter to pick up the slack.

Nancy was a go getter. She had immense skills in leadership and a variety of interests. Selfless, she served others and acted as mentor, teacher, and mother figure to various people in her life. Nancy obviously possessed the same nurturing traits that lead her mother into training as a nurse. Nancy, however, juggled her responsibilites without the depression that nagged at her mother on a constant basis.
