If I Die in a Combat Zone

How did they defined the kill ratio?

In O’Brien’s battlefield experiences what is the relationship between the numbers of enemy killed versus the numbers of Americans killed? How did the U.S. military define the kill ratio. Why was the ratio so important?

The kill ratio was the proportion between the number of dead you had inflicted and the number of dead you had suffered. The kill ratio was determined, by some people, as measuring "success" in the war.
