Do you have chapter numbers for these questions? Villages could be death traps, but they could also be a kind of home. Some villagers, usually older women treated the soldiers like sons; other villagers would set them up. Long term effects often came from attacking villages for no other reason than vengeance. The long term emotional effects were devastating.
