The Taliban is an Sunni Islamic fundamentalist political movement in Afghanistan. They moved into the SWAT valley, Malala's home, and took control of local government. The government of Pakistan let the Taliban control this area if they left other parts of Pakistan alone. Malala and her father wanted to provide a good education for girls which was counter to what the Taliban wanted.
