I Am Malala

Malala’s address to the United Nations Youth Assembly includes the following quotation: “Let us pick up our books and our pens. They are the most powerful weapons” (Yousafzai).

How does this statement speak to Malala's personal experience and her call for activism on a global level?

Malala understands that education is the key to equality for girls and all marginalized people. Guns and violence are never the answer. Malala means that pens write the ideas of people. People can be killed but ideas are bulletproof. Education creates ideas that can change the world for the better. Malala has shown this to be true: her life is a testament to it.
