Malala was afraid her father's disappointment would change his feelings for her. He was defintiely disappointed, but he also Malala's reaction..... how much it was hurting her. Thus, her father tried to make it more of a learning experience than a punishment,

My father consoled me by telling me about the mistakes great heroes made when they were children. He told me that Mahatma Gandhi said, 'Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.'
