The mufti resented teenage girls getting an education. He tried to get the landowner of the school to rent to him instead. The MMA banned CD and DVD shops. They also created a "morality police" to enforce their definition of Islamic law. Cinemas were attacked and billboards were taken down. People wearing Western clothes were harassed.
