The Taliban had spread anonymous letters against the Khushal School. The letter said the school is run by an NGO and is a center of vulgarity and obscenity. It stated that the reader should stop it with his/her own hands, tell others about it, or at least think about how bad it is. The letters had been distributed everywhere, and giant posters with the same accusations had been pasted on the front of the mosque.

Other than the letters and posters, the Taliban had also made Malala's father nervous by shooting Zahid Khan, his fellow friend and campaigner, in the face.
