What is the meaning of the barred door in Chapter 7?

The barred door represents responsibility. David blames God for his situation, when in reality, David carries the responsibility for his situation by allowing himself to be locked within the stable. When David finally realizes that it is essential he take responsibility for himself, he finally begins to formulate a plan for escape.
