Compare David as a person in the beginning to the end of the book how has he changed?

Early in the novel, David has no real plan, he simply takes an opportunity and does what he is told. Over the course of his journey, he conquers his fears, learns to navigate and interact with strangers, and finds strength in his former experiences. When he finally finds his mother.... he is exhausted, but whole.
