(Chapter 7) Why is it fortunate for David that he is able to hide his thoughts and feelings?

David just needs to survive. He cannot survive the winter on his own. A rather cruel farmer and his equally cruel family work David raged for shelter and a little food. David is glad he can hide his feelings and not anger the farmer. David just needs to survive and not alert suspicion or find himself homeless.
