In the conclusion of Chapter Three, David has been successful and continues to be safe. Throughout the novel, thus far, he has asked for God's help in his journey. After Angelo drops him off, and despite the success of his plan, however, David decides to no longer ask for God's help. God, he worries, might find greedy and no longer want to help him. We then learn that "the very next day something would happen that [David] could not tackle alone and he still would not ask for help ...", he keeps his resolution.
