Well, it is a very visual epic poem. Really the poem is nature intensified. Consider images like "ice that is mast high-high and "green as an emerald." He also writes about the "fiery bloody sun" sending beams of light "in a hot and copper sky". Add ghosts, Death "with skin white as leprocy" and any number of spellbinding images and you get a glimpse of Coleridge's masterpiece.
