In the first three chapters, the girls each assess the choices they have made as adults in the United States with strong ties to their home country, the Dominican Republic. Discuss how those choices may have been different had the girls remained in the Dominican Republic their entire lives. Would they have had the life of their mother, or would they have been able to earn graduate degrees (as 3 of them do) and marry men from other countries (as Sofia does)?...
