What are your observations, thoughts, or ideas about the book?

This book tells the story of someone who determines to make a change in her life based on the lifestyle of her family. She is told early that even if she leaves Mango Street and its poverty, she must feel obligated to go back and help others escape such a degrading lifestyle. By the end, she has accomplished her dream and she is now ready to go back and help others achieve the same dream. This novel certainly shows us a lifestyle we are not necessarily comfortable or familiar with and the way in which people can reach goals if they keep struggling.
