Passage from "Herzog"?

Hi folks...

I have a vague recollection of a passage from "Herzog" where he suggests that he calls himself an atheist but lives as if God exists.  Can anyone direct me to such a passage?  It may be from another Bellow protagonist, but I don't think so.

I don't think that quote is in Herzog... at least I haven't been able to find it!
