Marlow says, "There was nothing either above or below (Kurtz).... He had kicked himself loose of the earth." What does this represents?

What is Kurtz free from or not subject to?

Kurtz has "kicked himself loose" of all the trappings related to European morals or value systems. Previous deffinitions of  "good" and "evil" mean nothing to him. Kurtz has left the confines of human expectations.
