The Brickmaker is actually a spy, he has nothing to do with bricks. He is basically a corporate who reports on the goings on and specific people.

Kurtz is an enigma. To some people he is a mythic demi-god to others he is a demented slave driver. To others, like the company, he is a traitorous thief.
