According to Benita Parry, Heart of Darkness both reiterates and challenges colonial stereotypes. What evidence of this contradiction can you find in this passage?

colonialism is at the heart of Heart of Darkness: it is linked to the idea of cultural identity. The European colonizers seek to impose their own culture and way of life on the African natives, leading to a loss of cultural identity and a sense of alienation among the native population. Generally, the white Europeans are there to exploit natives and their land. This is the case for much of the story. There is however a cost to do this. Conrad seems to claim that the Christian belief that prehistory was untouched by obscurity or evil is a fallacy. Instead, there is “the horror.” In contrast, it seems, is the more advanced civilization of the colonizers and visitors.
