What is the relationship between Kurtz and the Russian? Is it completely one-sided?
It seems that the Russian is very impressed with Kurtz, but it will be hard for students to argue that their relationship is completely one-sided, since if it hadn't been for the trader, Kurtz would have probably died of illness. Kurtz and the Russian are also competitors, and the fact that the Russian apparently took some of his share of the ivory also shows that he is not completely impressed with him, or completely under his sway.
