    Going to the Congo

    Kind of Activity:

    Discussion and journal writing

    Objective:

    To understand the perspective of Marlow's narration

    Structure:

    Pick a scenario from the section, and ask students what they would have done if they were Marlow. Brainstorm as a class.

    After students are comfortable brainstorming, start to introduce other characters. You may say, "What about the station master?" After students have discussed a few other characters, ask them to pick one character each. This exercise will work best if students choose major rather than minor characters.
