Haroun is considered a hero because over the course of the book he learns, transforms, and in the end..... he concentrates long enough to make the moon spin on its axis, he saves the ocean by defeating the black ship, and he uses his wish to restore happiness to his sad town. In the end, the town is happy, his mother returns home, and his father's gift for storytelling is restored.
