Dickens represents the Circus workers as skilled, hard working with, β€œan untiring readiness to help and pity one another.” Mr. Bounderby and Mr. Gradgrind are hard men who see little value in the circus workers. In their eyes the workers don't actually produce anything and are hence expendable.
