Young Fortinbras is threatening Denmark. He wants to avenge his father's death. He also wants the lands forfeited by Norway to Denmark from the last war. Fortinbras thinks that it is a good time to demand these things because of Hamlet Sr. recent death. He perceives the royal court might be in disarray making Denmark weak. Horatio explains this.
