Polonius thinks it is Ophelia's romantic rejection of Hamlet's fancy. Polonius likes to think his instructions to his daughter to reject Hamlet is the core of Hamlet's madness, Queen thinks it is merely his father's death and her quick marriage to Claudius, I doubt it is no other but the main: His father's death and our o'erhasty marriage.
