In the opening scene of the play , what crucial role does horario play?

Horatio is Hamlet's trusted friend and voice of reason. The soldiers in front of the palace gate have seen the ghost of Hamlet sr. but need Horatio, a man of knowledge, to vouch for what they have seen. Horatio also acts as a buffer between the guards and Hamlet.
