THe King is busy praying overtime for his sins. He knows his offence carries the "primal curse" (killing of brother). He is praying for forgiveness but knows he can't have it. He won't give up his throne or his queen. Meanwhile Hamlet is on his way to see mummy. He sees Claudius praying and contemplates killing him. Hamlet refrains because he doesn't want to send his uncle to Heaven because, at that moment, Claudius is purging his sins.
