Hamlet

Act 3 scene 1

What theme is further developed in these lines.

Ophelia, walk you here. (to CLAUDIUS) Gracious, so please you, We will bestow ourselves. (to OPHELIA)Read on this book That show of such an exercise may color Your loneliness.—We are oft to blame in this, 'Tis too much proved, that with devotion’s visage And pious action we do sugar o'er The devil himself.

The theme of pretending to be someone a person is not can be seen throughout Hamlet. Claudius wants to look like a pious and loving King, Hamlet would like to be more like Fortinbras, Gertrude pretends that her actions are honest....The quote hence reflects this sense of pretending to be something different.
