Claudius treats Laertes as a courtier, although a favored one since Polonius, Laertes' father, is favored in Claudius' court.  Claudius tries to treat Hamlet as if he is also favored, but Hamlet is not happy about being "too much i' the sun" (pun on the word son).  Claudius says Hamlet is next in line to the throne and Claudius wishes that Hamlet would treat Claudius the way he would treat his own father.
