Hamlet

Act 1, Sc. 5, lines 25-32: Why might knowing his father was murdered create a conflict for Hamlet?

Hamlet: O God!

Ghost: Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder.

Hamlet: Murder?

Ghost: Murder most foul, as in the best it is,

But this most foul, strange, and unnatural.

Hamlet: Haste me to know 't, that I, with wings as swift

As meditation or the thoughts of love,

May sweep to my revenge.

The murder of King Hamlet leaves his son conflicted because by knowing, he must look to his father's murder, and who had the most to gain. It wouldn't have taken him long to realize the new king was his uncle.... the man who had just married his mother. A bit suspicious?
