According to Polonius, where is Hamlet going in this scene and why does Polonius feel the need to spy on him?

Hamlet is off to mother's chambers where she will" speak roundly" with him. Polonius feels the need to spy on everyone. He feels his hidden presence somehow will help sort things out. He likes his information through listening and interpreting. Unfortunately his interpretations are frequently wrong!
