What gesture does Gulliver make to the Lilliputians, ingratiating him to the tiny people?

Gulliver captures a few of his tiny guards and initially gestures that he might eat them. Then he cuts their bonds and allows them to go. Through this act, the Lilliputians come to understand that although Gulliver is of enormous size, he is civilized.
