Gulliver requested that the imperial majesty allow him to use twenty of his tallest ships and 3,000 men to retrieve the boat from the sea. He found little damage on the boat, but he did have to make repairs. Gulliver hoped the boat could take him far enough to where he would find a port from which he could depart for home.

"I told the emperor “that my good fortune had thrown this boat in my way, to carry me to some place whence I might return into my native country; and begged his majesty's orders for getting materials to fit it up, together with his license to depart;” which, after some kind expostulations, he was pleased to grant."
