This is when Grendel's narration changes. His tone and meaning seems more mature and he gets all existensial. I think the law is about destroying the thing that defines you. By fulfilling his goal of destroying the Danes he will no longer have a purpose in life. This in turn will destroy himself. As Grendel quenches his desire to kill, he also destoys that which he desires so much. It's a paradox of sorts.
