Here are a few points:

-the masses live in relative poverty (Pip, Jo, Mrs.Jo all live with barely enough to eat)

-Rigid class structure (Pip wanting to do the near impossible, transcend his class to be a gentleman)

-Large factories where children work in bad conditions.

-Inhumane prisons and workhouses

-few options for women other than to "marry well". Estella has a bad marriage.
