There is a lot that takes place but I can try to make a general comment. Ms. Havisham really uses the situation to cause pain and conflict to young people like Pip and Estella so they can feel her personal pain of being jilted on her wedding day. Miss. Havisham has some major mental issues going on but she also has money which draws Pip in with the promise of being a gentleman. By the end of the book Miss. Havisham sees what she has done to Pip and Estella and feels remorse.
