This is the creepy scene when Pip is lured into the sluice-house where he’s supposed to meet the anonymous letter-writer. Pip gets in sees a candle but it is extinguished by somebody in the darkness. I suppose the candle could symbolize Pip's brief life before Orlick plans to kill him.
