Miss Havisham raises Estella to be a cruel, cold young woman. Havisham's wealth spoils her, and although we feel for Estella when she's a girl, she never leaves the corrupt world she's been inducted into. Possibly she was afraid of the wealth being taken away. Maybe she was ruined before she ever had the chance to truly think it through....... Estella's main source of corruption was caused by the woman who sheltered her and primed her for a life of unfeeling. Did she stay because she was emotionally afraid or because she didn't want to lose the security she'd known.
