Great Expectations

Pip and Magwitch discuss freedom. Why does Magwitch say Pip cannot appreciate freedom the way he does? What does this tell us about his character?

Magwitch has been on the run for much of his life. He has been unable to make roots, friends or have a proper family. Ironically, Pip had all of these before he became a "gentleman". Magwitch is actually an introspective and sensitive character. He sees his life in context and truly wants to help Pip because he can no longer help himself.
