Orlick is a journeyman, who works for Joe at the forge. Worried that Pip's relationship with Joe will eventually mean his dismissal, he acts foolishly and loses his job anyway (he's believed to be the man who accosted Mrs. Joe), and he then goes on to work at Satis House. Once again, Pip uses his influence to have the man sacked and thus gains Orlick's hatred and desire to kill him.
