Herbert seems refreshingly content about his lot in life. Herbert tells Pip that he had been brought to Miss Havisham’s all those years ago as a playmate for Estella. He speculates that Miss. H might have even considered him as a mate for Estella. Nothing materialized and now he lives in London a poor guy with few prospects. Herbert, however, doesn't seem bothered by it.
