how did estella change pip?

Much of what Pip does is to be worthy of Estella. He learns Latin, etiquette...In the end Estella is still unobtainable. Pip realizes that Estella was being manipulated just as much as he was. Pip aspired to an illusion of gentry, Estella being a part of that.
